Family means everything. Family members are our ‘go to’ for safety and security especially important in the early years. Parents help nurture and develop our sense of self, they keep you going when things are tough, they help out when life gets out of hand, they cheer you up when you are down, they guide and support when needed (sometimes when not asked too!). Your children are the reason you work so hard and fill you with joy. That’s the plan, the dream you have for yourself, your reason for living.
Life with babies and young children ebbs and flows and is full of ups and downs, often filled with tears of joy and laughter childcare certainly pushes you into new territories. This can feel scary and take you out of your comfort zone. Having a new baby or twins join your family is life changing and there’s no going back.
Becoming a mother of father for the first time is a mixed bag of emotions, it causes you to rethink your life, take new actions, stop things you perhaps enjoy, as you imagine the world that your child is to grow up in. A new baby or another child in the family can increase the pressure and your workload. New choices and decisions emerge, do I do this or that, what impact will it have on my child?
Parenting is certainly full of challenges and is often a huge learning curve for all mothers and fathers. Your little bundle robs you of sleep (that’s to be expected), demands more of your time and energy, day after day your child wants to play, be fed, entertained and all you want to do is get through the day in one piece without upsetting anyone and complete your tasks!
Childcare sounds so simple and it should be most of the time but family life is like Christmas full of surprises, even when you don’t expect or even want them. ☹
Every child is unique, just as every parent is too, your thoughts and beliefs shape your parenting experience and how your child turns out now and in later life. The first seven years is what shapes your child’s future, so make sure they are filled with good times and that you are enjoying every moment too.
