Today is Halloween, it is scary time we are not leaving the UK after Brexit talks failed again to reach an agreement about our country’s future, I wonder though; how many parents are being kept awake by their children this week and what it means for their future development?
The difference in these two scenarios is that the first one is being done in a way that many UK residents are upset about because of the chaos and disruption it will cause and how it will impact today’s children for years to come, most people feel they should have more information or keep things as they are with the EU with your child though, it’s a different matter.
You have the choice if you are not happy about being woken up at random times. You can stay the same and leave things to run ‘their course’ or you can do something about it and improve your child’s sleep, the same as you would if your child was falling behind at school. Believe me, getting your child to sleep happens a lot faster than Brexit, thankfully it’s way less than three years!
When we come out of the EU whatever date that is our country will suffer fall out and consequences, as yet we don’t know how bad it will be for us as consumers or businesses and this is causing sleepless nights for many people.
There are similarities for parents of children who are not sleeping all night long, which often causes a delay or inaction since you don’t know how long peaceful nights will take to happen, you don’t know where to begin or if things will get worse if the method you decide on fails. This puts an inexperienced parent into a state of fear and worry. When you are fearful and anxious you tend not to make the best decision or you simply choose to leave things to chance instead of taking a leap of faith.
Instead of thinking the worst, worrying about the unknown which the average person individually can’t do anything about, we could start small.
Consider looking at the prospect of what life would be like if you woke up refreshed every morning and didn’t have to tend to your child’s cries every hour or two. This is what clients of mine can expect within a week or two and although it won’t change the country, it will leave you with a clearer head and able to make better decisions at work and be a more patient parent.
Whatever happens with Brexit, we have to accept it may cause unease and be a bit bumpy but at least if you and your child are getting a good night’s sleep, you will be able to make better decisions about the future that will help your child grow up healthy and happy.
